🌞 Anatomy of the Sun
What do you think the Sun is like on the inside?
It is estimated that the Sun has been shining for over 4.5 billion years and will continue to do so for another 5 billion years.
Can you imagine where it gets so much energy from?
Three-quarters of the Sun is made up of hydrogen. In its center (the core), the Sun is capable of reaching very high temperatures and pressures.
Under these conditions, hydrogen atoms come so close together that they merge to form helium.
This process releases an enormous amount of energy, which slowly radiates outward.
The part of the Sun that we call its visible surface is the photosphere, and sunspots can be observed on it.
The outer atmosphere of the Sun is called the corona, and curiously, this zone is hotter than the solar photosphere.
